Rescued Adult Great Danes Available

At Shakti Danes, we are well aware of the nationwide problem of homeless pets.

To ensure that we are not part of the problem, all homes for our puppies go through a careful screening and interview, to ensure that these puppies' first home is also their only home. Our contract requires that if the new owners ever cannot keep their Great Dane, he or she always has a place here to come home to, and must be returned to Shakti Danes. Additionally all pet puppies are placed with limited registration and with a strictly enforced spay/neuter contract.

But, not being "part of the problem" is never enough. We strive to become "part of the solution."

We have worked closely with Great Dane Rescue, Inc., providing both long- and short-term fostering for Great Danes in need. Our work with this Rescue also included transportation, administrative help, and volunteering at events. See sidebar (right) for information about this fine organization.

Becoming part of the solution doesn't end with Great Danes. We also work with several all-breed rescues and shelters in our area, taking in pregnant bitches of any breed, to provide knowledgeable and experienced care before, during, and after whelping.

The high-stress environment of an animal shelter is not a good place in which to give birth. By offering a quieter alternative for the whelping and early lives of the puppies, Shakti Danes is then able to return these homeless dogs to the shelter, healthier and more adoptable than when they arrived. And to return to the shelter a litter of weaned, healthy puppies, ready to be adopted into loving homes.

Great Dane Rescue, Inc.
serves Danes in need, and adoptive families in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Ontaria and Alabama. The Great Danes available for adoption come into the program for a variety of reasons.

Some are strays, picked up by area animal control departments and not claimed by their owners. Some have been seized in neglect or abuse cases. Some have been relinquished by their owners, due to a change in circumstances that does not permit them to keep their Great Dane.

All of these dogs are in need of loving homes.
